Java is the face of women's oppression. He does not have an equal position with men. Instead, he became a victim of male domination. Here there is a conspiracy of power that strengthens the position of cultural and traditional roles of women.

It was presented by Dwi Rahayuningnsih through this novel. He presents the woman with the Javanese cultural problems that impede movement. However, for the sake of harmony, they prefer to "make peace" with him.

Sayem, the central figure in the Heart of Sinden, is a symbol of women Java. He comes from a poor family. Twice he was divorced by her husband. On divorce the two, the reason for that is used is not to give offspring Sayem.

Divorce was found not mentally destroyed. Despite the profound grief, Sayem trying to awaken. He did not want to drown in sorrow. He kept trying to re-arrange his life.

Sayem attraction to the Javanese classical poetry led him to become sinden. But not money or fame he sought, but the peace that have penetrated the heart when he sang poems meaningful Java.

Sayem then joined a group of musicians. Here, too, he was confronted with various problems, ranging from sinden feud with another, until the desire Priyo, leader of the gamelan group which he joined, to marry him.

Sayem relationship with Priyo Sayem deliver to a third marriage. But the storm struck again. Priyo not only caught a man who already has a wife, but also unmasked as a man who's crazy about the other women.

Sayem finally resigned. He is not divorced with Priyo but decided to live separated from her husband's. Without much help from Priyo, Sayem trying to raise her children.

At this point seemed Sayem appears as a woman who has the power of Java. Although he is in an unbeatable position, but he was not a rebellion against authority. Conversely, Sayem try "playing" in the circle of power Priyo so successfully deliver their children into a better life.

Through these roles and traditional values, Sayem succeeded in becoming a strong personal and beat reality in areas that occupy subordinate. As expressed by Sayem themselves that life is a duty that must be carried out in accordance with the role of run (p. 388).

The novel is like a reminder that women are stereotypically Java under the shadow of matriarki world power, has the potential to shift the hegemony. He seemed to deconstruct the structure without the need to revolutionize the conception of culture that has been established.

Critics of this novel is, up to half of the book world sinden still looks like a "promised" by the title. If only the world kesindenannya Sayem and narrated earlier, it will be more and more intricacies sinden interesting world that can be submitted .***
