Mount Nyiragongo is the most dangerous volcanoes in the world. Worryingly, scientists claim it's just a matter of time before the mountain erupted. Like what?
Located on the eastern edge of the region of the Democratic Republic of Congo, two-mile crater lava stinggi these are objects that store a lot of secrets. At the base of Mount Nyiragongo in Goma town there is an estimated population of around one million people. That number continues to grow rapidly due to the presence of rebels and government forces.

Twice in recent years, Nyiragongo erupted and hit the town destroying homes and forcing residents to flee. Now, experts believe the risk of volcanic earthquakes continued to increase.

Italian seismologist, Dario Tedesco, spent 15 years studying the Mount Nyirangongo with funding from the European Union. He struggled to create attention the scientific community about volcanic hazards.

"Gima is one of the most dangerous cities in the world," said Tedesco told National Geographic.

History shows Tedesco claims may be true. In 2002, at least 350,000 residents fled after the volcano released 15 million cubic meters of lava into Goma region thus destroying 14,000 homes and buried the entire floor of one building.

Over the last 20 years, this region also experienced a landmark battle in regular contact with neighbors, Rwanda. Even so, the area is also guarded by 20,000 UN troops, one of the world's largest peacekeeping mission.
