Synopsis
To Bee or Not To Bee, written by John Penberthy, told me about the trip spiritial a bee named Buzz in his search for God. Buzz is saturated with routine daily activities - gather honey, improve and protect the nest - began to question the meaning of life which he lived and the existence and influence of God against himself. In his search, he then met with Bert, a wise old bee. Although not explicitly, Bert Buzz lot in finding answers to all spiritual questions in the minds Buzz. Until in the end, Buzz is able to understand clearly what is the meaning of life and existence of God that he has been looking for.
My Review
It is fitting that this book has been translated into 13 languages. The content is really deep and touching. Penberthy with genius is able to 'translate' lives and desires of an individual human being into the life of a bee and its colony, makes us feel they do not have anyone with us. Moreover, coupled with captivating illustrations from Laurie Barrows who is able to add depth of content.
Many philosophical sentences which I think could make anyone who reads it to take a moment to reflect and understand its meaning.
It is perfect to think that life is not perfect.
The mind is a great servant, but is a poor employer.
Happiness can not be pursued, but must be followed.
Life is a journey from I to we.
At first, I thought this book was about the 'rich' who are tired of piling up wealth and hope to find spiritual peace. I was wrong. This book is precisely about the 'normal' working day and night saturated for a living and live their lives, who then tried to find answers by doing the thinking and spiritual journey. And finally, we need to realize that our current circumstances and what we do today, no matter how boring it is, is a great gift from God that we should be grateful.
